My second photo talk at camera club tonight..

OMG after another great evening at Ards Camera Club, I have been bitten by another bug- MORE photography qualifications, this time working towards the Royal Photographic Society’s Licentiateship. I could even do it just based on photos I already have. EXCITED!!! More info re the Royal Photographic Society is here- http://www.rps.org

Here, in my 4th set from my first DSLR trip, I can see and remember the focusing issues I had with the camera because I didn’t have a clue. I didn’t know to control the focus point of how to move the focal point on the camera, I was stuck with focusing in the middle. Also I the made the mistake of seeing the photo o the camera screen and thinking “excellent, that worked” then seeing it on the computer screen and you can clearly see in many of the pictures the horse is out of focus and soft. Ah well, many lessons learned from this trip….

Again more pics (3rd set) of my first DSLR walk about. More shots and more evidence of experimenting and trial and error to get correct exposures with the sun and also the best place to place the horizon in the shot.
Without knowing about leading lines or anything I managed to vaguely to it anyway cause I remember just wanting to document my travel which was the path that I was following and also showing where I had come from…..interesting.

This is more pictures from my first outting with a DSLR, again ALL auto settings. Yeah they are okish but still pretty poor in the big scheme of things BUT I can see now looking back how I was already learning to experiment with the scene. I can see how I sat and took multiple shots of the same scene and tried to frame it in different ways to see how the pictures looked in comparison to one another.
I also see I went off to take pictures of somewhere else and then revisted the previsous place from another angle to take more pics from closer up etc.
It’s interesting to look back and analysis this first trip and when I really kinda felt that buzz of being out and being pleased with my pictures that I created.

This is my first EVER trip out with a DSLR camera. Cavehill looms over Belfast city and I climbed all the way to the top with the aim of taking lots of pics and I did just that! 208 pictures were taken on that trip and this is a tiny amount from the climb UP the “mountain”. I had no training, no idea how to use the camera, all the settings were just put on auto. I literally knew NOTHING! The trip was on March 7th, 2011 and I took a very few pictures until the summer, when I decided enough was enough and I enrolled for an 8 week casual camera evening to learn properly how to use the camera.

David Orias - Waves (2010)
“‘The bold colors and painterly feel in many of my wave photographs are mostly the result of early morning light, camera motion and slow shutter speed exposures, in contrast to the more typical front-lit photos and fast shutter speeds seen in many surfing photographs.’
Using long exposures, Orias captures an otherwise imperceptible color spectrum. He explains that, during wildfire season, the sunlight in Southern California can be refracted and scattered by smoke particles, creating an eerie orange morning light.”

WOW these are amazing, I need to find a way to make waves more interesting and colourful like this! We can’t really do it in Ireland though lol

wow I love the use of the three towers, foreground, middle and background in the frame to create a fantastic feeling of depth. Beautiful colours here also. REALLY makes we want to travel a lot more
